Esther is a Registered Dietitian and graduated, with distinction, from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Food Science with a Dietetics specialization. She is a member of the College of Dietitians of Alberta and Dietitians of Canada.
Esther uses a non-dieting approach when promoting wellness, with a holistic approach towards the interplay of thoughts and emotions with behaviours in the context of food and body image. She believes that behaviour change is a process and that when it comes to food, there are a myriad of factors that go into making a decision beyond taste and health. Food beliefs that lead to food decisions often find their roots in the cultures and environments we grow up in, and honouring and exploring these beliefs first can make applying the science later both more palatable and sustainable.
Esther has experience working in all areas of acute care. As a result, Esther is able to explain complex health or nutrition-related concepts in an easy-to-understand manner. She has seen how the role of nutrition has made a positive difference in the lives of her patients. Her specializations include: sustainable weight management, heart disease, gastrointestinal related conditions (ie. crohn’s and colitis, celiac disease, irritable bowel syndrome, etc), diabetes, and both adult and adolescent mental health.
As a passionate advocate for the importance of mental health, Esther has published two fiction novels to promote mental health awareness and continues to actively volunteer as a youth program facilitator and counselor. She is a blogger for Shift Nutrition.
